This is something I can remember people doing, it was like they were building a fortress around there self importance, maybe their title, and actually creating more work than was needed.

It is what we call working from the outside in, the inner self worth is so limited they are going for security, at anybody’s expense, namely the boss’s.

This article published in Melbourne’s Herald Sun on Friday 21st December 2018 on page 21 beautifully reminds me of that, leave a comment if you relate.

The Games People Play

Look busy, fool the boss

THEY might look like the busiest people in the office, constantly firing off “helpful” emails and always ready to offer “input” in front of the boss.

But many of these employees are actually “self-promoters” who have mastered the art of looking industrious without actually doing anything useful, according to a UK study.

It examined about 200 employees in 28 teams across many sectors, identifying a variety of workers including the highly motivated, jobsworths and the plainly disgruntled. The study found the managerial system rewarded “dysfunctional behavior” with promotions and better pay, despite the fact that it was bad for collective productivity.
