RETAILER CLOSES

On reading the Hearld Sun on Friday November 16th 2018, pg.9,  I came across an article by KARINA BARRYMORE and it caused me to ponder the following ………………….

MORE than 200 Victorians will lose their jobs just weeks before Christmas as Melbourne retailer Roger David closes its doors after 76 years in the state.

Online sales and rising shop rents have deterred buyers from saving the struggling menswear chain with administrator Korda Mentha confirming the company’s 57 shops would shut in mid-December.

“Roger David was a victim of rising fixed costs, fierce competition from online and global competitors and cautious consumer demand,”
Korda Mentha administrator Craig Shepard said.

“Everyone recognized the strength and the affection for the brand but it did not pass the viability test,” he said.

Throughout the country 500 people will lose their jobs, including 210 in Victoria.
